The Great Race is an Indonesian retelling of the tortoise and the hare fable. It is the third in Nathan Kumar Scott's loosely connected series of Indonesian folktales featuring Kanchil, a trickster mouse deer. The first in the series is Mangoes and Bananas and the second is The Sacred Banana Leaf. Each book is distinguished by the different Indian folk art style used to illustrate the story.  Nathan will do an interactive and dramatic narration of The Great Race. Rather than simply read his story, Nathan is on his feet, enlivening the story of Kanchil the trickster mouse deer who races through the forest to prove he's "the fastest animal in the jungle.” Which animals have challenged Kanchil, and will he be beaten?" Nathan Kumar Scott was born and raised in India of American parents and has been bridging cultures all his life. He has been a theatre director, designer, playwright, puppeteer and storyteller, and his work has been performed across the United States as well as in Ecuador, Mexico, India, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
