This powerful book kept me reading well into the night—always a gift! Memorable character and setting as well as crisp writing. A family is torn and woven back together after years on separate paths.

I knew little of the wonderful American Library in Paris before reading this excellent novel. Odile, young in Paris in 1939 and Lily, a teenager in Froid, MT bracket a timeless story of heroism and the power of literature to unite. Another terrific entry in the WWII cannon.
A beautiful rendering of both the universality and specificity of grief and love. Based on a real-life phone booth in Japan.
Walter's best yet! He opens up our Northwest (Yea-National) history of injustice towards labor-folks just trying to make a living... Superb prose & characters both fictional and real that you will care so much about.

This excuisite memoir is a stand out for so many reasons! The light that shines through, despite horrific abuse and neglect; the clear and beautiful prose. Read it and feel hopeful! Tina is a fellow indie bookseller in Oregon. We are so proud to welcome her debut.

I will always be grateful for books that keep me reading into the wee hours… In that regard, this one has my undying affection- wow!

If you have NOT read this yet, well, you must. Sport, history, wonderful real-life characters amd terrific writing!

Advice that is Art! I rarely read “self-help” but EVERYONE should read this!

One of my favorite books of all time! The cover and sub-title kind of say it all. You will want to go there yourself.

I think I am now officially a mystery fan - if they can all be THIS GOOD! And on another level, it's a powerful portrayal of the complex racial tensions in Southern Africa. Brilliant!

Imagine memorizing every painting in a world class museum. I loved this book by Seattle author Debra Dean.

Beowulf for kids. Or anyone. Nancy Farmer has done it again with this terrific adventure. Read it aloud!

Jack and Birdie have lost their mother and are bounced between two uncles who couldn't be more different - especially their approach to brother Birdie's preference for glitter and boas. Exquisite portrayal of family!
I am especially drawn to debut novels and this one did not disappoint. Four people become two couples entwined in one position leading an historic New York City church through the epic changes of the 1960's. Superb writing illuminates the sweeping issues of faith, doubt, justice, relationships and the meaning of life.
What if you could pass as white, but chose black? What if your identical twin sister chose white and leaves "with no word of farewell"? And what if fate brings your daughters' lives close enough to see who their families are? What a story!
Genesis keeps a list of things she dislikes about herself. With the encouragement of her music teacher and her own powerful (in so many ways!) voice, Genesis beins again. A WOW of a book!

On Murphy Island, everything is eccentric. But Newt Gomez just wants to be normal...shake the bad dreams that persist about the bear attack he survived, to not be the only Latinx in his town. And then there's the bear statue that might grant wishes...
A new novel by our long-time friend and Ballard author, Kim Baker!

Sutton and Luis could not be more different, but the fact that her dad and his mom are dating has flung them together. The scientist and allergic-to-everything writing figure quite a bit out on a hike together in Discovery Park. Characters you'll like!
If you loved "The One and Only Ivan" like I did, you will just have to read about Bob's next adventure! Just like Bob - full of sass and action!

Despite the title, this is a book about changes large and small. Divorce, anxiety, anger, and gay marriage all limned tenderly as 12-year-old Bea looks back at her younger self adapting and adjusting. Beautiful!
